Morrill Wyman
1812–1903
American physician and social reformer. MD, Harvard, 1837; medical practitioner in Boston, 1837–92. Interim professor of anatomy at Harvard, 1853–56; elected to the Board of Overseers, 1875 and 1881. Worked on ventilation of sickrooms and public buildings, and served on a sanitary committee during the American Civil War. Devised a method for removing excess fluid from the chest cavity, and conducted experiments on ‘autumnal cattarh’ (hay fever), publishing the first pollen maps of the United States. Campaigner against corporal punishment in schools. Founding member of the Cambridge Scientific Club.
