A fine pen and ink drawing in the collection of the Wellcome Library seems to be yet another derivative from Ouless’s oil portrait of Darwin, or from Rajon’s etching of it; but there is no indication of the drawing’s authorship or purpose. It is enclosed by a pencil line forming a roundel, which may indicate that it was to be the basis for a wood engraving or a photographic process print, for a book or journal. The format in fact resembles that for portraits that featured in the Illustrated London News.
