Walter Bentley Woodbury
1834–85
Photographer and inventer of the woodburytype process. Pupil of a civil engineer in a Manchester Patent Office, 1849. Photographer in Melbourne, Australia, 1854–7. Owned a photography studio in Java, 1857–8 and 1860–4. Returned to England in 1864; filed more than thirty patents for photomechanical printing and for optical and photographical apparatus, 1863–85.
