Victor Gärtner

1833–1888

German-born Brazilian colonist. One of seventeen founders of the German colony at Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil, 1859. Owned a dry-goods store in the colony and was co-founder of several cultural and recreational associations. Following the founding of the German Empire (1871), became German consul, a post that he held until 1888.
