Politician. Called to the bar, 1870, and worked as a special pleader. Liberal MP for Brecon, 1880–5; for South Bedfordshire (Luton), 1885, 1886, 1892. Supported working-class housing and education in Battersea, London. Made Baron Battersea, 1892.
