Daniel Cooper, 1st baronet
1821–1902
Merchant and philanthropist. Emigrated to Sydney, Australia, and went into partnership in an extensive mercantile house that became Cooper Brothers, 1843. Director of the Bank of New South Wales (1847), and the Sydney Railway Company (1850). Sole director of Cooper Brothers, 1853. Member in the Legislative Council of New South Wales, 1849–51 and 1855–56; represented Sydney Hamlets in the first New South Wales Legislative Assembly, and was elected Speaker, 1856; senate of the University of Sydney, 1857. Knighted, 1857. Created baronet 1863.
