Robert Alfred Cloyne Godwin-Austen (1854–1884)
1808–84
Geologist. Noted for his work on the stratigraphy of southern England. Predicted the existence of coal-bearing strata in the south-east of England. Secretary of the Geological Society of London, 1843–4 and 1853–4. Assumed the additional name Godwin from 1854. FRS 1849.
