William Henry Appleton
1814–99
American publisher. Partner in the New York firm D. Appleton & Co., 1838–48. Became head of the firm in 1848 on the retirement of his father, Daniel Appleton. D. Appleton & Co. published works by British scientists such as CD and Herbert Spencer.
