John Bartram
1699–1777
American botanist. Created a famous garden at his farm in Pennsylvania. Correspondent of Peter Collinson and friend of Benjamin Franklin. Collected plants throughout North America and exported many American plants to Europe. Botanist to King George III, 1765. One of the founders of the American Philosophical Society, 1769.
